    The renovated Historic Southern Pines Train Station includes a passenger waiting area for Amtrak customers, the Southern Pines Welcome Center, and a multipurpose room that can be used for parties, classes, or meetings. The station is located in the heart of Downtown Southern Pines and is a centerpiece for the hub of activity that surrounds it. An unusual feature is that the railroad tracks bisect the main street of town.

    Surrounded by a lovely, 14-acre public park and garden, the Campbell House is a stately manor which functions daily as an art gallery and cultural center. Art exhibits change monthly and the gallery offers you an elegant and warm atmosphere that will add to any special occasion.Space available to rent through ACMC is the first floor of the Campbell House, including the kitchen and four gallery spaces, and the garden immediately through the Porch Gallery doors.

    The Fair Barn, maintained and operated by the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department, is the oldest surviving early twentieth-century fair exhibition hall in North Carolina. It was built in 1917 for use as the Sandhills Fair, one of the major country fairs in the Southeast from 1915 through 1925. Restored in 2002, The Fair Barn is now a multi-purpose community gathering place. The ceiling soars 2 1/2 stories high, with large skylights that allow natural light to permeate the room. The pigmentation in the unusual floor complements the massive wooden structure.

    The Pinehurst Harness Track is a 111-acre equestrian facility that has been a winter training center for standardbred horses since 1915. The grounds consist of three training tracks and several center aisle barns with approximately 300 stalls, as well as several paddocks. Champion trotters and pacers train on either the 1/2 mile sand/clay track, the 5/8 mile sand/jog track, or the 1 mile clay track, all of which serve as an ideal winter training facility.

    Located within Cannon Park, the playground is a longstanding favorite with families and includes the infamous Camelot medieval castle playground. The playground is designed for kids of all ages and includes infant and therapeutic swings. A separate playground located next to Camelot is designed for older kids.Parents can enjoy a large sitting area within the playground and several surrounding picnic tables that allow parents to catch up on reading while the kids catch up on playing.

    The Elizabeth High Rounds Park was dedicated May 28, 2002. Betty Rounds’ efforts to provide educational and leisure services to the youth of the community was a high priority during her tenure on the Town Council. This 4-acre park offers play equipment, open space, a picnic shelter, restrooms, and a trail that connects to both the Reservoir Park and seven miles of greenway trails in the area. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.

  • Arboretum

    The Village Arboretum consists of 35 acres of land adjoining Wicker Park, site of the Village Hall.  It is a great spot for picnics or tossing a frisbee.  The trail system within the Arboretum is perfect for walkers and nature lovers.  Many of the trails are wheelchair accessible and dogs on leash are welcome!
    The Arboretum’s Magnolia Lawn, Pergola Garden, Joyce’s Meadow and Timmel Pavilion may all be reserved for weddings, receptions, concerts, festivals and other special events.
    The Arboretum also hosts several free community events throughout the year including an Antique Car Show, Oktoberfest, and a Military Child Celebration.

    Martin Park is currently an off leash Dog Park of more than 50 acres. The park has been enjoyed by many from our community for daily outings with their dogs. The dogs love the park because they can run without a leash. There are no fences but there are trails that wind throughout the 50 acres. The park is located at 350 Commerce Avenue in Southern Pines (behind Wal-Mart).

    Wicker Park, site of the Village Hall, Police Station and Fire Station, is currently being developed as a community park. Amenities available within the 103 acre facility include 2 new tennis courts, a soccer field, in-line hockey, playground, paved walking trails, brick sidewalks, expanded trail system and concession stand/restroom facility.  Wicker Park is also home to the 33 acre Arboretum that is being developed by the Village Heritage Foundation. Also currently developed in Wicker Park are 3 miles of walking trails, a paved loop and sidewalks with additional sections planned. A portion of the Greenway Trail System also runs through the park from Hwy 211 to the site of the Arboretum.

  • Pinehurst Greenway SystemThe Pinehurst Greenway System currently has 5.8 miles of trail completed out of the total of 24 miles planned in the Greenway Master Plan. Please note that trails are for pedestrian and bicycling access only. Motorized vehicles, such as golf carts, are not allowed on the trails. Violators are subject to fines and penalties as set forth in the Village of Pinehurst Municipal Code.
